Sanguis is one of the constituent regions of the Magical Dimension. Most notable locations include it's capital Ignis and the worshipped Volcano. Sanguis is ruled from the Fire Castle by the Hainasoni Bloodline. The name comes from the latin word for for blood.
Sanguis is the only region aside from Divitia to produce crystals. The type found in the region is called the Lapis Ignis.
Rulers[]
- Peter Thornton ruled from 1997 until 2016.
- In Season Six/Season Two, Peter's children and those of his brother separate themselves from their parents. Peter is accused of allowing May Miller to abuse witches and deemed unfit to rule.
- In a unified front to elect their own queen, Laura Thornton, Lydia Thornton, Louis Ignatius and Nick Thornton collectively reject the throne, making Cassidy Hagano the new ruler.
- Cassidy Hagano rules from 2016 onwards. She marries Tobias Ambroise and passes the throne on to their oldest daughter, Leya Hagano.
Geography & climate[]
Sanguis is located at the South to south-western part of the land. It is neigboroured by Divitia in the west and north, Slivatica and Aerqua in the north and Tenebris in the north-east.
Over a third of it's land is located on the flank of a sleeping volcano, one of the many reasons why this part of the magical dimension carries this name.
Due to it's hot and suffocating climate, not many people from other areas like to visit the region. The people living in Sanguis don’t know any better and are used to the heat. It almost never rains in Sanguis, but there are significant thunderstorms known in this area. Once in a hundred year the volcano becomes active again and spits out fire.
Culture[]
There is a very specific culture in Sanguis. People only do magic involving blood and fire, which makes them a little feared by others. They also celebrate everything that has to do with the sun. So the first day of summer is the one day a year where they practise the most difficult kinds of bloodmagic. That is also the day where the life rings of the Millers are made.
They also celebrate the volcano once a year. People go to the edge of the sleeping volcano and do spells together to bless their families and pray for a good harvest. Teenagers dare each other to go down to a lower part of the volcano on this day and the party at the edges. This party ends with a death most of the times, but the witches and wizards see that as a great sacrifice to the volcano. When no one dies they believe there won’t be a good harvest.
Significant places[]
Fire Island[]
The Island is located South of Sanguis main land. About 300 meters of shore you'll see the edges of the Island. It is seen as the center of Sanguis. Although it is not located in the most easiest place to reach due to the rocky shore that can easily destroy ships attempting to reach it.
Fire Island houses the region's vaulted supply of Lapis Ignis, and it is highly guarded.
Flamma Dessert[]
The Flamma Dessert is the desert that surrounds the volcano and stretches to the border region with Tenebris.The desert covers a fourth of the region and stretches from the east along the southern shore. Travelling through the region to reach the Volcano on it's sacred day is considered an honor and can be fatal if the journey isn't well-prepared.
Rivolusa[]
Rivolusa is the name given to the northern, more populated area of the region.
- Ignis, Is de biggest city in Sanguis. It is the home of many members of House Blackfyre.
- Vertiron, Is one of the smaller cities in Sanguis, but is significant for the eternal burning fire that is located in the center square. It is considered a pelgrimage location.
- Summerash, is the stronghold of House Thorne.
Dragonia[]
Dragonia is the area bordered by Divitia's mountains, the desert and the shoreline in the south. Separated from Rivolusa by an extended mountain range, the area is considered one of the most isolated regions of the magical dimension.
- Feyton, is a small settlement at the shore the provides most of the guards for Fire Island.
- Dragonlake is a lake in the region and the only body of water that was created naturally. A few families reside around the lake.
