— Chris to his brother Justin

Chris Saphire is a recurring character in Touch of Magic and a main character in Justice. He is the younger brother of Justin Saphire and known to cause mischief, but eventually he gets his life in order and turns into a vigillante called The Shadow. He is an SJBS-alumni, where he also met and became close friends with his future wife Phoebe Curtis.

Chris has a lot of experience with grief, both through the death of his parents Jodie Saphire and Keith Saphire as well as the self-sacrifice of his girlfriend Nora Rhodes. When he is younger, he deflects from mourning and turns his grief into anger and reckllessness.

He has a few brushes with the law, starting with the initial videotape exposing Mila and Katie's relationship all the way to DUI's. However when he gets a grip on his life, he opts to study social law in Portland

Chris experiences his pressence as a human amongst the vampires and witches in his life as a strength, similar to his brother's experience. He takes up the role of dealing with the vampire population in Portland because he knows as a human he flies under the radar. He works closely with Alyssa Miller and reports back any findings to her, indicating he has a healed and forgiving nature since founding out his parents were killed in a sick game by Alyssa's father Jared.

He extends his skills to members of The Underground once he gets involved with their cause, and trains the younger generation on how to defend themselves, as well as training the humans on how to navigate the magical world. He eventually trains his successor, Killian McGregor.

Life[]

Early Life[]

Chris was born to Jodie and Keith Saphire and grew up admiring his father , who is a military lieutenant. As a toddler and a kid he was very happy inspite of his father being gone most of the time. He grew up with Justin, his older brother, untill Justin went to boarding school.

Season One[]

Chris gets mentioned as Claire and Payton recall their recent vacation to California. He is later introduced in person when Justin spends the weekend at home on house arrest. Chris is seen having friends over occasionally, however he was not aware that one of his friends was blackmailing Katie. At the end of Season One Chris and Justin leave on the roadtrip with their dad, unknowing that Justin is walking away from Claire who is comatose after Alyssa wiped his memory.

Season Two[]

As a 16 year old, Chris shows his rebelious side brought on by his lack of a fatherly figure. He gets expelled from his private school, to which Jodie considers enrolling him in SJBS. Throughout Season Two , Justin usually returns with a new story about his rebellious brother after visiting his family.

Season Three[]

At 17 Chris gets send to SJBS by his mom when his behaviour gets out of control. Justin openly protests against the idea of the two brothers sharing a room. Eventually Chris ends up not boarding because of financial issues, which Alyssa offers to pay for.  Chris then finds himself in trouble occasionally, which later requires Justin to help him out. The two brothers do bond over their shared experience at SJBS, and after a while Chris' junior year results improve.

In the late spring of 2010 Chris finds out from Justin that their parents died. Unlike his brother, who graduates, Chris doesn't and decides to drop out of school. He then moves to live with his aunt and uncle, leaving Waterfall Creek.

Season Four[]

With Justin's return to Waterfall Creek, Chris gets dragged with and he gets convinced to take the final few credits he needs to graduate. His work experience at the auto repair shop gives him an assisting pressence at driver's ed. It is revealed Chris took the job there to be away from his family and from seeing Justin depressed. He tried returning to a highschool where his family lived, but didn't want to start all over. He asks Phoebe how she knows the Silverstones, sensing they might be able to talk about a shared experience with their world.

Chris reunites with Nora, who is now (assistant) manager at their favorite coffee shop. Chris invites her and Phoebe to a party. There they hook up and they begin dating.

Chris befriends Phoebe, as she is the only one who doesn't push him to face the abscence of his parents. Eventually she does ask him why he tolerates a witch like her. Chris explains that he has nothing against witches, growing up with Payton and Claire, but he can't see past the destructive nature of vampires. Now that they both know they know, their friendship is easier and effortless.

In the season finale they go on a camping trip to celebrate the fact that Chris officially graduated. During that night,Nora gets bitten by Thomas Chamberlaine and turns into a vampire.
